Background and personalities

For more than 100 years in Plaisance, the Rochais family combines the art of wine with passion.

At the beginning of the 20th century, in 1903, an ancestral family from Rochefort-sur-Loire decided to build up a comfortable middle-class house on the hillside. « Plaisance » was born.

Since then, the place has been occupied only by descendants of winegrowers such as Mr. Henri Rochais, the father of the present winegrower Guy Rochais, who purchased the estate of Plaisance in 1960.

But who is the Rochais family? Since the beginning, their history is closely linked to the art of winemaking. And why is this so obvious? In fact, in the Rochais family, they have been winemakers for five generations in the rural district of Champs sur Layon. Thus, both a pleasant tradition and a deep identity have been transmitted: an imprint that the family has kept throughout the years.

Today, very much adaptable and cheerful, Guy and Patricia Rochais are in charge of the whole management of the estate starting with the grape growing process. Guy Rochais, a smiling, joyful host, is very much appreciated by the visitors of the cellar. Always making witty remarks, he also generously gives advice to help you in choosing your favorite wine. Because his passion is contagious, many people come and visit him to (re)discover the wine production in Plaisance.
